What is a Beer Olympics party?
Beer Olympics is a drinking competition where teams compete in a variety of drinking games to see who will be crowned the ultimate beer drinking champion. The ultimate Beer Olympic parties are an all day event, have lots of fun outdoor drinking games, and teams going all out to represent their chosen country and bring home the gold medal. Or even a custom trophy!
How to Setup the Best Beer Olympic Party
Planning ahead
To throw the best beer olympics party of all time, you have to plan ahead. While you could certainly throw one at the last minute, giving a few weeks notice allows teams to really go all out, which will make the event that much more exciting.
Nice Weather
A nice sunny day with a cool breeze is the best for crushing cans of beer. Make sure you get plenty of ice to keep them brewskis cold. May we suggest a Yeti cooler?
Indoor/Outdoor
For the location, you’ll want somewhere that has plenty of space for drinking games. A house with a nice sized yard would be optimal. This allows you to play games both indoors and outdoors. However, you can have a beer olympics anywhere you want! Well, probably not on an airplane, so don’t try that!
Each Beer Olympics team should consist of 4-6 players.
You can designate team captains ahead of time to pick their team for the beer olympics. However, you’ll want the teams to be evenly matched. So don’t have four sorority sisters playing against the four guys on the rugby team.
Pick a country to represent
It’s time to choose your beer olympic team theme! All teams must pick a country to represent as they drink their way to a gold medal. No two teams should have the same country. Get creative! Of course you can do USA, Canada, Mexico, but adding some smaller countries like Fiji, Netherlands, and Vatican City, can make for a great underdog story.
Pick your Beer Olympics uniforms
Get your American flag belt buckles, French berets, and Canadian tuxedos ready- things are about to get wild! Each beer olympic team should dress in theme with their country. You can even add a point for the team with the best outfits as a way to entice everyone to get in the spirit of the Beer Olympics.
Passing of the torch
Before the games begin, a “passing of the torch” is a fun way to kick things off. Of course, only in states where it is legal. Puff, puff, pass around the ceremonial joint, then get ready to party.
Beer Olympics Games to play at your party
It’s time to let the games begin! But what games are you going to play? There are plenty of drinking games to play, but the best Beer Olympics games are competitive, high-energy, and require some skills.
While King’s Cup is a great drinking game, it doesn’t require any skill. Beer Ball on the other hand will have players making diving saves to stop their team from losing.
The games work best when playing tournament style. This way you can have a bronze, silver, and gold medal winner for each game. Gold gets 3 points, Silver gets 2 points, and Bronze gets one point. Tally up the points at the end of all the games to see who wins. If you need help creating brackets for your games, this website allows you to easily generate brackets.
Here are some ideas Beer Olympics game ideas:
Beer Pong
This classic drinking game is a must-play. You sink, they drink. Teams of 2 face off as they try to make their ping pong ball in their opponent’s cups.
Civil War
In this twist on beer pong, each player has a “pong pyramid” in front of them. Teams battle to knock out all of their opponent’s cups in an all-out war. Each player starts with a ping pong ball, and once the game starts, anyone can shoot any ball until each player is wiped out.
Flip Cup
Each team lines up facing their opponent. Start at one end as players compete to drink and flip their cup faster then the person across from them. The team to go down the line faster than the opposing team wins!
Beer Die
Lay it all on the line. Beer die is a great game to play during the Beer Olympics since it requires coordination, accuracy, and some athleticism.
Flimsy Sticks
Teams of two take turns trying to throw the frisbee between two flimsy sticks. Points are scored when you throw the frisbee between the sticks or knock a cup off of the stick.
Beer Ball
While normally this game is played 2v2, it can be played with entire teams for the Beer Olympics. Throw your ball at the opponent’s beer can, and start chugging your beer when you hit it. Defenders must grab the ball and touch it to the table to make their opponent stop drinking. The first team to finish all their beers wins! Find out all the rules to beer ball here.
Boat Races
Line up and chug. Teams line up across the table from each other and one by one they must chug their beer. The team to drink the fastest is the winner!
Beersbee
Similar to flimsy sticks, but with only one pole. Players take turns throwing a frisbee and trying to knock a bottle or beer can off of their opponent’s pole.
Quarters
For this game, each player will need a quarter and a shot glass. Similar to a boat race or flip cup, teams will line up across from each other at the table. Starting at one end, players will try to bounce the quarter into their shot glass. The next player can start, once the player in front of them has made it into their glass. The first team to have all their players bounce the quarter into their glass is the winner.
Stump
Each player on the team starts with a nail slightly tapped into a stump. Players take turns flipping a hammer and trying to hit the opposing team’s nail into the stump. Once your nail is hit all the way into the stump, you’re out. Once all players on one team are out, the other team wins.
You might want to play this game at the beginning because it can be dangerous. Be careful, and make sure you put safety first!
Thumper
What’s the name of the game? Thumper! Why do we play it? To get f*cked up! Each player picks a sign to start the game. Players then drum on the table and go around doing their own sign, then a sign of someone on the other team. You can play best of 5 to make things a little more interesting.
Baseball
One of my favorite drinking games, Baseball is a mix of beer pong and flip cup. You can find all the details on how to play the Baseball drinking game here. Teams take turns trying to get “hits”, “steal bases”, and score “runs” through the course of 9 innings. The team to score the most runs by the end of the game wins. You can find all the baseball drinking game rules here.
Dodgeball
While dodgeball isn’t a drinking game, it can be! All you need to do is add a beer to your hand. This is played like classic dodgeball where players are out if they get hit or the other team catches the ball. Players must have a beer in their hand at all times. If you drop your beer, you’re out!
Beerio Kart
Beerio Kart combines drinking beer with Mario Kart. The basic rules of Beerio Kart are simple: every player must finish one beer by the end of the race, but they can only drink when their kart is completely stopped. The game can be played with up to four players, and each player should have their own designated driver. Before starting the game, players should agree on the number of races to be played and the amount of beer to be consumed per race. Once the game begins, players must race around the track, stopping their kart to drink their beer as they go. The first player to cross the finish line and finish their beer wins the race.
There are many other no card drinking games that also make for great Beer Olympics games!
Beer Olympics Medals, Trophies, & Prizes
At the end of the games, tally up each team’s points to see who is crowned Beer Olympics champion. If there’s a tie, it will come down to a Boat Race between the teams, and don’t forget to drink every last drop!
To make things even more exciting, having some prizes for the winners will make things even more competitive. Make sure you order some Beer Olympics Champion t-shirts to give out to the winning team!
You can also get a gift card to the local watering hole, or even do a custom Beer Olympic trophy for the winning team to take home.
Additional Beer Olympics Party Tips
To make the most of your Beer Olympics party, you’ll want to be sure to provide plenty of food and water. It could be a good idea for each country to bring a dish or appetizer associated with that country. Team America brings the buffalo wings. Team Italy brings pizza. Team Antartica brings penguin?
If nobody wants to cook, just order yourself some food on GrubHub.
You can get yourself a water jug so teams can stay hydrated. Or maybe the winning team just wants to dump it over their captain when they win!
